Kurta: How To Wear A Kurta.
The quintessential Indian staple that every girl should own and invest is obviously a kurta! I am pretty sure most of you already own a basic kurta. But if you don't I am here to guide you through it! Let us first break a few myths:
Kurtas need to be well fit: I say, no ways. It's the season of anti-fit, loose and flowy silhouettes. You can go ahead and buy a kurta that's not your size. Anti-fit is the new cool.
Kurtas are supposed to be worn ethnically: Believe me, whenever I wear my kurta as a dress or a top to my ripped denim, my mother really questions my fashion sense. Of course, I know where she's coming from. But, a kurta can be worn as a dress, top and tunic!
You cannot wear kurtas to a party: Of course, you can! Fashion is very subjective and you cannot limit yourself into wearing something only to a particular place. You can definitely pull off a kurta at a club, dinner date or simply a night out with your girlfriends.
How To Style:
Wear your kurta as a dress, team it up with a pair of classic white sneakers and you're ready looking uber cool.
Ever thought of wearing a basic kurta with a pair of slim pants? Ditch your salwars and patiyalas this time and wear your kurta with slim pants and layer it up with a crisp blazer that will make the perfect office look!
Wear your kurta as a tunic dress and drape a scarf around it for a casual trendy look.
Going for a party? Team up your kurta with a leather jacket and a fine pair of black boots for the ultimate biker chic look!
Wear your kurta as a high-low top and team it up with a pair of denim shorts. This is the perfect street-style look that will work best when out for shopping.
There are of course endless ways of styling a kurta, but I listed a few basic ones for all of you to start over with!
Now comes the question: Where do you get the perfect kurta from?
I got my current favorite kurta from Rangriti. They have a wide range of kurtas divided in different styles: Summershine, Indie Tops and Layers. I chose a beautiful red kurta in size M, because I believe in the fashion of anti fit. I styled it in 3 different ways and the pictures came out beautifully well!
LOOK 1: The Office Dress.
Being a working girl, I mostly spend my time in office. It is my second home. So, office dressing is an integral part of my life. Styling for me is not just wearing clothes in a certain manner, but the way you do your hair and makeup also plays a big role. I wore the dress as a dress and loaded it with two broad belts to give it more structure. For accessories, I chose a pair of statement earrings and an artsy folder that compliments the colours of the dress so well. I finished off the look with a pair of oxblood oxfords.
LOOK 2: The Indie Babe
Amalgamating styles is my forte and indo-western is sort of like my long lost love that I keep going back to all the time. For this look I teamed up my kurta with a pair of beige palazzos and some silver jewelry. I wanted a rebellious indie look for this outfit so I kept my hair big with lots of curls. The look was taken up a notch with my tan bag and brown mules. I wanted the look to have brown tones to it and I loved the outcome!
LOOK 3: The Street Chic
This look is my favourite! I colour blocked the kurti with my military pants and military green choker. The outfit was a statement in itself, so I finished it off with my black boots and backpack.
